What a wonderful holiday weekend! I have have spent time with many people that I have not been able to catch up with for quite some time and eaten wayyyyyyyyyy too much great food. Alex and I have been busy trying to get some more exercise with long walks the last few days. During our walks together I have found some great subject matter to paint.
I seem to be splitting my time in the studio between new oils and watercolors. I spent 4 days recently panting with Kenn Backhaus en plein aire. He is such an inspiration and talented artist. He encourages using a very limited palette as he does so I am giving that a try. It is amazing the range of colors that can be achieved with 2 reds, 2 yellows, 1 blue, a black and a white. I love learning new approaches from other artists. I work as directly from their instruction as well as I am able to and then incorporate what I care to into my own work.
My watercolor class on Monday evenings at the Oxford Community Center is coming to a close in 2 weeks. It is always a pleasure to paint there. This fall several of my returning students are in class along with one total beginner. I love the challenge of teaching. It always amazes me to see the variety of subject matter that my students paint.
Enjoy the rest of your holiday weekend!
Linda
